From Roam Rentals to Hygge Haus
The changing of the guard
I have spent years perfecting my craft in interior design and decorating - From buying fixer uppers, renovating them to the fun part of picking finishes and redecorating the whole thing. I also worked at a shop in Nebraska full of antiques and cozy additions for the home - I spent every penny of every paycheck back in the store. I started accumulating things that are forever pieces and I can rotate them around my home in different seasons. I absolutely love hosting and opening my home to people and I started to notice people falling in love with our home. The compliments on our little house just kept coming - How cozy it was, how beautiful and how at home they felt coming for the first time. My cozy home made people FEEL something special. I decided to start offering my services to people because it’s so much more important for people to feel those feelings about their own homes.
People started hiring me to help them - I painted homes, picked new furniture, went shopping and began to transform homes and families. What a blessing! I decided to add “interior designer” to my instagram bio one day and out of the blue I got a text asking if I would be interested in buying Roam Rentals - A home staging and event rental company. I immediately said no. LOL I told my husband I didn’t want to feel like I was moving all the time. But my sweet man, in his wisdom, said, “I mean, we have never been offered a company before… I feel like we should pray about this.” So we fasted and prayed and began the discussions with the bank and the current owners.
Just a month after receiving that text they signed the company, the inventory and Big Bertha (the company van!) over to us. We immediately got to work dreaming up a new name and direction for the company - Something that resonated with us more.
The word Hygge (pronounced hue-guh) is a Danish word that means cozy. Every design choice I make is foundationally; cozy. We spelled the word "Haus” differently as well because of my German ancestry. I am very German. It’s been a great conversation starter because most people aren’t familiar with the hygge movement but it’s been fun to gateway into what we do.
For me, cozy is what it’s all about.
